Cinnamon Dunsford

Principal Planner, Locale Consulting

Cinnamon Dunsford is a Certified Practising Planner (CPP) and experienced community engagement practitioner.  She has over 15 years’ experience in the local government planning sector with a range of strategic, coastal, rural, environmental and economic planning experience.  She is a Member of the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) and has recently completed the IAP2 Certificate in Engagement. Her strengths include being able to holistically manage various stages of planning projects including preparing strategic planning documents, then moving through the consultation phases and into the development implementation.

Cinnamon joined our team in 2013 and undertakes a range of strategic and statutory planning projects with a focus on best practice community engagement.  Since joining Locale Consulting, Cinnamon has been able to assist councils and communities to deliver on projects that respond to their needs and to help to bridge the gaps that can be present between the two.  She has strong communication skills which underpin her planning knowledge and result in effective community engagement processes.

Cinnamon regularly draws upon her experience as a Senior Strategic Planner with the Shoalhaven City Council, where she led two major project teams that were the recipients of NSW PIA Excellence in Planning Awards, being the Nowra Bomaderry Structure Plan (2006 – Rural and Regional Planning Achievement Category) and the Shoalhaven Citywide LEP (2012 – Community Engagement Category). She is able to put herself into “the client’s shoes” to ensure projects are delivered within the constraints and opportunities of local government.

Cinnamon was also the strategic planning co-ordinator for major development applications, providing a detailed understanding of the multi-disciplinary needs of major projects, as well as the varying and complex issues facing regional councils in their assessment of such projects.  In addition to her regionally based experience, Cinnamon also has experience in environmental planning with a large multi-disciplinary consulting firm and in strategic planning for some of Sydney’s fastest growing areas.

Cinnamon is in the final stages of completing a Masters Degree and has particular interest in stakeholder engagement / facilitation, as well as planning law.  Cinnamon has overseen the development of a number of voluntary planning agreements (VPAs), been an expert witness in the Land & Environment Court and presented papers at a number of conferences.
