Flo Mitchell

Flo Mitchell Legal Pty Ltd

4.5/5

Flo is an accredited specialist in disputes, a skilled litigator and negotiator with a niche practice in defamation law, compulsory acquisition and professional negligence cases involving solicitors and accountants.

Flo has an abundance of emotional intelligence which allows her to work effectively with the client, counsel, experts, and most importantly the opposition to get the best outcome for the client. Her ability to read situations and assess matters quickly, makes her a great advocate for the client both inside and outside of the Court room.

Her approach is to examine the client’s desired outcomes from the start, assess those expectations and give realistic advice to the client on the prospects of such an outcome, and the cost and time. As an innovative thinker, Flo frequently looks at other solutions and options for clients. Her aim is always to keep costs down where possible and to ensure the client is always kept up to date on the progression of a case.

Flo is confident in leading and advising on large scale, complex matters and recently successfully represented a client in a claim for $4.7 million. In 2016, she acted for approximately 25 different clients who were affected by the compulsory acquisition of their property and businesses during the Sydney Metro development, negotiating settlements in excess of 300% of initial compensation offers. She has also acted for a client who was successful in winning the biggest defamation verdict in New South Wales.

As well as being an accredited specialist in commercial litigation, she is a current Committee Member of the Law Society of NSW for accredited specialists in commercial litigation. She holds a Masters in Health Law from the University of Sydney and was formally a barrister practicing in Ireland from 1996 to 2002. She has been a solicitor in Sydney since 2004. She has also featured on Australasian Lawyers TV, speaking on “Working effectively with barristers” and gives lectures to the legal profession on practice issues and risks in litigation. She regularly blogs and comments on contemporary legal issues. She has worked as a mentor with the Law Society of NSW, assisting women to excel in the legal profession. Her most challenging role, however, is trying to keep up with her three young children who constantly test and sharpen her negotiation skills!
